This report focuses on land conservation and the tax incentives, funding programs, and processes that help support this work. The report summarizes a range of land conservation activities and needs, some of the supports in place for this work, land conservation’s public benefits, and approaches and recommendations to enhance such supports. This is a challenging time of climate crisis, biodiversity loss, Indigenous-settler reconciliation, infrastructure needs, and other substantial challenges. In such a context, the conservation work of municipalities, Indigenous communities, land trusts and land holders is increasingly important and can address solutions to such multiple challenges.
